Shared Supper, New Friends

Our evening in Bethlehem was spent with local families. Arranged through a group called the Alternative Tourism Group, we found ourselves as guests in the homes of Palestinian Christians from the mostly Christian town of Beit Shahour. In small groups (4-5 people) we sat around tables and shared a meal with people who began as strangers but became friends. It was said that “those who eat together cannot fight each other.” Hearing the stories of these families brought home in a powerful, vivid, and personal way the struggle Palestinians have faced for two generations.
